Trickery Twos
The past few weeks have shed some light on something that I'm not yet prepared. Certain situations, actions, reactions and voice levels have made it apparent that the Munchkin is fast approaching two years old! Now although she's just now sixteen months old, don't let that fool you. She's been well ahead of the game since her first tooth broke through at the early age of 4 months. To say the least, she's keeping the Other Half and myself on our toes!
About a month ago, Munchkin started having regular screaming matches if she doesn't get her way and has even began the dreaded arching-of-the-back when nothing else will work. Although we all know this as the 'Terrible Two' stage, I want to add in some things to ease the subject and willfully change the name to 'Trickery Twos!' Her little personality is beginning to shine through and sometimes I just wish I could see the world from her point of view. She changes so quickly and her mind is growing so fast that the most ordinary thing in her daily routine, like the linens closet in the hallway, could end up being the center of her attention one day when she realizes she is capable of opening it herself..... and putting random things in there (insert my half laugh because it's funny and annoying at the same time). But let's not stop with the linen closet. There is a whole world of things to be opened, closed, slid, pushed and pulled. One time her sippie cup went missing for two days and I finally found it when she went to open said linen closet and pull it out herself. Same thing happened with her Pooh Bear blanky that she always sleeps with. Needless to say I always check the linen closet now. Another sippie cup was placed in a kitchen cabinet one time while another time I pulled a large puzzle piece out of the dryer after accidentally washing it because she had bundled it in her dirty clothes hamper! I have to admit, although this has been going on for several weeks now, two separate instances this past week had the Other Half and I laughing so hard we were crying because it was that funny.... allow me to set the stage with some pictures!
One evening as things were winding down the Munchkin was playing with her toys in the living room while the Other Half and I were sitting next to her watching TV. The toy of focus at that moment was one of those ball poppers (although it makes noise, it is a must for busy babies). This specific ball popper is in the shape of an elephant with it's truck in there air, which is where the balls pop out when turned on. The first picture can give you a full image of what went down next. As the Munchkin pushed the button to play the music and start the popper mechanics going, a very loud and incorrect whirring sound occurred. It was loud enough and abnormal enough for the Other Half and I to quickly turn our heads toward the scene. The Munchkin slowly, calmly and mischievously turned her head toward us with a grin so intense I knew without a doubt this was not an accident. The Other Half quickly turned the toy over and out fell a metal door stopper!!!!! Yes... my child had taken a door stopper off the back of one of our bedroom doors and stuffed it into this toy. We tried to hold it together so she could understand it was wrong, but we were both doubled over in laughter so hard the tears were blurring my vision.
The second occurrence actually took place when I was at work and the Other Half was at home with Munchkin. It was his day off so he took his time getting her up in the morning and feeding her breakfast. At exactly 8:08 am I received a text from him with this second picture attached and this caption: "I was filling up Max's (our dog) food container with the food from his bag and this is what I found inside!" Yes... our daughter had somehow gotten into the bag of dog food and placed this little gem for who knows how long! I laughed so hard at my desk that I had to explain the whole situation to my co-workers which only caused me to laugh harder!
I've started to not be so surprised when I open drawers and cabinets and know right away that Munchkin's hands have been there. I keep thinking, I wonder what else we will find when we pack and move out of this apartment? It's definitely a fun aspect of this whole toddler stage. Right when you think you have your child all figured out, they go and trick you again!
So, stay tuned for more 'Trickery Two' tales:)
